Lime also contains Magnesium which aids disease resistance. The best soil pH is around 6.5-7.00. Lime also helps to break down clay soils and improve texture. Ideal for vegetable patches.
For best results:
Can be applied throughout the year but is best applied in the autumn before first frosts. For normal soils use every third year. Acidic soil may need a yearly application.
Application rates:
As a guide, 40-50g is about a handful.
To raise pH by 0.5 in a typical clay-loam soil you will need to apply 57g per sq m (5.7 kg per 100 sq m).
For a sandy soil, you need to apply 30g per sq m (3 kg per 100 sq m).
Apply evenly between plants. Avoid plant stems. Do not use on or near lime hating plants.
Use at recommended rates. Over application may damage plants.
